Hi Pierre,

I know, you are probably still on your well deserved vacation, but I'm currently improving some things in the German translation and came across the average values "average value" and "middle value".  I just realized that I made a direct translation which, in German, is describing the same value (being the arithmetic mean). In English, I think, "middle value" is just another way of describing the median value, so I would suggest using more precise denotations:

What do you think about this?

Hi Chris.

Thank you to pointing this... You're right, there's something to do on the wording. The next days I've spent some hours to read difference between average and mean and there's no "absolute" way to fix the wording - nobody agrees. So, here is what I propose

  • renaming "middle value" in "mid-range value"
  • letting "average" like this as it can not be confused anymore with mid-range value or median value

Are you agree or do you think it always causes confusion?

PS: I must admit I'm little bit afraid to use "arithmetic mean value" (even if it's exactly the definition) for users who have no scientific background...

Hi Pierre!

Yes that would be much better. For "average" I think you made a good point, if there are no other parameters available that allow for confusion everybody will think of the arithmetic mean when hearing "average" anyway. And you're right - most of the people mean the arithmetic mean when talking about "average values", so as far as I'm concerned you don't have to change that.
